Interview nr.32 François L
Making a drawing everyday become a necessity to me. I just can´t afford not being able to draw.
What importance does art have in your life and how do you found the motivation to practice it?
It´s both my passion, and my work. I´m a student in art and animation, so I keep drawing on daily basis, with the same love for it. I found the motivation while I was still a child. Taking comic and video game character and trying my best to draw them at the perfection without looking at the model.
It started like that, I think. Now I can draw my own character, those that I imagine, while making other fan art.
What´s the greatest obstacle/challenge as artist and how do you tackle it?
Keeping the rhythm, I guess. Making a drawing everyday become a necessity to me. I just can´t afford not being able to draw.
How long did it take for you to find your “artistic style”?
Something like 8 or 9 years, I think. And even now, even if I got a style that is mine, I still have a lot of improvement to make in order to get a real "artistic style".
Many of your illustrations have such appealing face expressions. What are your tips to achieve great face expressions when drawing/illustrating?
A lot of things, in fact. Some people will try to find example in books or something similar. Something that I like to do is looking at myself in the mirror to get inspiration of the face.
Later I try to mimic that and include the facial expressions. I often exaggerated theses expressions, for making them eye catching in a more efficient way.
Final question. What kind of tips would you suggest or give to the beginning artist?
Don´t give up. The best way to have an artsy le is to draw daily and everything. Not just cartoon characters, but also what is around you.
In fact, it gives more "life" to your drawing.
